TRAVEL DOCUMENTS FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE

For French People
If you travel on French territory, a document proving the identity and your affiliation with your baby can be your family book (livret de famille). If the entry in a foreign country is subject to the presentation of a valid identity card (even within Europe), you will need to make this document on behalf of the child.
If the destination requires the presentation of a passport, you have to make one for your child too.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR LITTLE ONE ENTERTAINED ON THE PLANE

Here are some ideas on what to bring with you to entertain your baby or toddler on a flight:
For baby:
  • His favourite soft toys, music toy to calm him down and to fall asleep, soft books, chewing toys which are colourful, plenty of small and inexpensive toys.
  • If your baby is starting to walk, make sure that he walks a lot before boarding the plane (at the airport) so you are sure that his energy level will be lower.

WHY GET A NANNY

In my experience, traveling with your family is just the best way to travel. There is always so much to do and so much you can choose from that every body is happy. There is one thing though, that you should not put aside, it is your romantic relationship.

WHY RENT BABY EQUIPMENT

In my experience, bringing your own baby materiel on holiday rhymes with disaster. I have done it and I said : never again!
The first time I flew on a national flight, my baby girl was 3 months old. I brought her beautiful pram along. Once at the airport of my destination, my pram was on the carousel and not even with bulky object (as it was supposed to!) and when I tried to put it up altogether, I discovered that an adaptor was missing! I quickly understood that I would not be able to use my pram in the streets of Paris! I complained but the airline company did not do anything about it. I did not even get a document stating that my pram was damaged. As I was traveling alone, no need to say that it was very difficult to get to a taxi with two suitcases and a broken pram!

WHY RENT A HOLIDAY FLAT

I think that choosing accommodation is what takes most of your time and decision-making. You wish to be in a nice place that does not require being in public transport for too long, or you would like to be in town where things are happening or you would rather prefer being in the countryside to relax. Amenities should also play an important role in the choice you make for your little family. And all that without even talking about prices!

FIRST AID KIT

There is a list of what you should need for your baby's first aid kit. According to your destination, you will need more or less. Always seek your baby's pediatrician for advice.
  • Infant and/or child thermometers
  • Children's and/or infants' acetaminophen and ibuprofen, as recommended by your pediatrician, to relieve fever and mild pain
  • Antihistamines, as recommended by your pediatrician, for insect bites, hives, and allergic reactions
  • Topical calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream (.5%) for insect bites and rashes
  • Antibiotic ointment for cuts and scrapes

HOW TO DEAL WITH JET LAG

I believe that what frightens most parents, is jet lag. We, as adults, understand what it means and that even if we are tired we try to resist until it is a reasonable time to go to bed. But babies live more naturally then us. Here is what you should know:

Time ahead: When the night comes, keep the shutters/curtains close so that he can understand that it is sleeping time and keep lights at their lowest capacities. Put him down when he is ready (a later time than an usual night if you are ahead of time - local time). When morning comes, you see that he is still sleeping like an angel, wake him up to start the day (same as home but in your new time zone.), he can fall asleep in his pram later.

HOW TO FLY WITH BABY

I love flying. It is an enjoyable moment for me. But with a baby or toddler, we believe that we are less mobile. It is just a question of organisation, really. I am sure that you know that by now. Baby Included is here for you. In order to help you get ready for your wonderful family holiday, here are some pieces of advice.

First of all
  • Try to flight at night if you go take a long courier, as it will not disturb your baby’s habit too much.
  • Try to take as few planes as possible. It may be more expensive, sometimes, to take one plane instead of two or three, but think of your child first, which basically means it is better for your stress level!

WHAT TO PACK

What to pack in your cabin bag

Buying a stroller is a very good investment as your baby can sleep in it while you are at the airport and during transit on longer flights. Buy one that is very thin and compact so you can take it to the door of the plane. I only suggest to buy one if your baby walks and if he is too heavy to be in a baby carrier.
In your cabin bag: pack all essentials for your baby’s hygiene, feed time, and play time.
  • Passport/ID card and a visa if needed
  • baby carrier
  • diapers (the disposable ones!)
  • changing mat
  • wipes or lotion with cotton pads
  • medical and first aid supply (pain relievers, arnica in gel)
  • homeopathy to calm him down

10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD TRAVEL WITH YOUR LITTLE ONES

Today, traveling is more open to us, and there is no better time to start when young. It allows your kids to learn what is out there and what can matter to other people from other cultures. But most of all, you will give them the opportunity to explore their inner journey through the outer world. Here are some reasons why it is important to travel:

  1. You get to live, as a family, like locals. Having a baby or a toddler will automatically dictate your daily routine. You will experience the same rhythm as locals, shop in the same grocery stores and get to see other places that other tourists may not have the opportunity to see or to be at.
  1. Share what you love with your family. Traveling is the school of life, it is knowledge, and knowledge is power.
